Manus AI Review 2025: Comparison with ChatGPT, Gemini, & Grok

Picture me at 3 AM, bathrobe on, hair like I’ve stuck my finger in a socket, shouting at my laptop: “NO, you silicon-brained numpty, that’s NOT what I asked for!”

If you’ve followed my AI-Powered Content Creation adventures, you know I’ve had a love-hate relationship with every AI assistant going. My wife now calls my office “the place where Mark argues with robots.”

Just as I was ready to smash my keyboard and return to pen and paper, a beta invitation for “Manus AI” slid into my inbox. After testing so many tools for my 10 Best AI Writing Tools for 2025 article, my expectations were lower than my first website’s Google ranking.

Three weeks later? I’m a convert. Here’s why Manus has me whispering sweet nothings to my computer (yes, my wife caught me).

ChatGPT 5: ChatGPT 5 Summer 2025 Release: Features, Pricing & Everything We Know

What Makes Manus Different

What Makes Manus Different (And Why I’m Obsessed)

1. It Actually Remembers Stuff (Like My Wife Remembers Arguments)

You know what drives me absolutely mental? Explaining something to ChatGPT only for it to develop digital amnesia 15 minutes later.

Manus’s “persistent contextual memory” is actually just basic competence. Start a complex website plan, take a client call, return an hour later with “so about that product filtering…” and Manus picks up EXACTLY where you left off. No recap needed. It even connects dots between seemingly unrelated conversations, which is stunning for complex projects like those in my Ultimate Guide to Site Structure.

“The human mind builds connections organically across all experiences. AI should work the same way.” – Dr. Eliza Morrison, Manus AI Lead Researcher

2. It Has Real Opinions (Not Corporate-Approved Waffle)

Me: “Which framework would work best here?” ChatGPT: “Here are 17 frameworks, each with unique advantages and disadvantages depending on various factors including but not limited to…” Me: slowly bangs head against desk

Manus actually picks a lane! I asked about frontend frameworks and got: “Look, mate, for your content-heavy site with dynamic elements, skip the React vs. Vue debate and go straight to Next.js. Those React Server Components will save you 15 hours of performance headaches down the road.”

I actually said “thank you” out loud. To my computer. My dog looked concerned.

If you appreciate straight-talking advice like my 10 Commandments of Web Design, you’ll love this approach.

3. The Swiss Army Knife That Actually Works

After my deep dive into Mastering AI SEO, I’m skeptical of tools claiming to do everything.

But picture this: I’m writing marketing copy when a panicked message about a checkout page bug arrives. Without thinking, I copy-paste the error into my Manus chat.

Instead of the usual “let me switch to coding mode” nonsense, Manus just fixed it. Then seamlessly returned to our marketing discussion with: “Now, back to that launch copy – actually, this error handling approach might inspire a good reliability message.”

My jaw dropped. I checked my coffee for whisky.

For small business owners, it’s like finding a handyman who can actually do plumbing AND electrical without flooding or electrocuting your house.

Manus AI Processing slowly

The Bits That Make Me Want to Scream into a Pillow

It. Is. PAINFULLY. Slow.

We’re talking “contemplate your existence while watching the cursor blink” slow. I asked about CSS Grid and swear I counted 47 cursor blinks before getting a response.

At one point, I was convinced my internet had died. Nope. Just Manus taking its sweet time like a Michelin chef preparing a soufflé. This makes those Google Indexing Delays seem zippy by comparison.

The Manus team swears they’re working on it, but for now, using it requires saint-like patience or excellent multitasking skills.

Manus vs. The Other AI Lot: No Contest

Right, I’ve wasted hundreds of quid testing every AI tool going (as you might’ve seen in my Grok AI Review). Here’s the unfiltered truth:

ChatGPT vs. Manus

Bloody hell, ChatGPT is dull. It’s like that colleague who dresses impeccably but only talks about the weather and their new kitchen cabinets. Safe, reliable, and puts me to sleep faster than my nan’s sherry.

Manus? It’s the slightly scruffy mate who turns up late to the pub but keeps you there till closing time because the conversation’s too good to leave.

True story: Last week I was fixing that nightmare typography system for the dental client (you know, the one where the fonts went mental – wrote about it in Typography Nightmares). ChatGPT gave me vanilla advice straight from a first-year design textbook. Manus said “Your secondary font is fighting with your brand like cats in an alley. Let’s try Atkinson Hyperlegible instead – it’ll complement your primary font while actually being readable on mobile, which matters for a dentist since most people panic-Google them from their phones.” Specific, contextual, and actually useful!

Gemini vs. Manus

Google’s Gemini is that kid at school who memorized the textbook but couldn’t solve a real problem if their life depended on it. Ask it anything factual: brilliant. Ask it to think: crickets.

Yesterday I needed help with a client’s tanking conversion rates. Gemini gave me a perfect essay on “Top 10 Conversion Rate Optimization Strategies” that could’ve been copy-pasted from any marketing blog since 2010.

Manus looked at the actual data and went “Hang on, your mobile checkout is asking for too much info upfront. People on phones hate typing. Move the optional fields to step 2 and watch your numbers jump.” Three hours later: problem bloody solved.

It’s like having a designer who actually understands Neomorphism Design instead of just knowing the definition.

Grok vs. Manus

God, Grok. The AI equivalent of that uncle who thinks wearing a novelty tie makes him the life of the party. YES, WE GET IT, YOU’RE QUIRKY. NOW PLEASE HELP ME WITH MY ACTUAL PROBLEM.

Tried using Grok for a client pitch last month. Asked for landing page ideas and got three dad jokes before any actual content. My client was on the call. Mortifying.

Manus doesn’t try to be your wacky sidekick. It just… helps. When I was weighing up those big design options for the e-commerce redesign (the stuff I talked about in 5 Big Choices for Web Design), it slipped in a dry “Well, at least option two won’t make your users want to throw their devices into the sea,” which made me snort-laugh because it was actually funny AND true.

The Verdict: Should You Bother?

After two weeks of what my wife calls “that weird period when you were in a relationship with your laptop,” I’ve reached a conclusion:

Manus is like finding a brilliant consultant who’s chronically late to meetings. Frustrating? Yes. Worth it anyway? Also yes.

I’ve deleted three AI subscriptions since getting Manus access. Despite its glacial pace, it’s now my go-to for anything requiring actual thought rather than information regurgitation.

The clincher came when I dumped a nightmare WordPress project with plugin conflicts into Manus. After reviewing the mess, it delivered perfect technical debugging and then said: “This plugin combination is like inviting both your ex and their new partner to your birthday party and expecting things to go smoothly.” Useful AND funny? I was sold.

This reminded me of the problems in The 7 Deadly Sins of WordPress Maintenance – sometimes you need a tool that understands the messy reality of web development.

Who should get Manus:

  • Freelancers juggling multiple disciplines
  • Anyone who’s cursed at ChatGPT for forgetting context
  • People working on complex, long-term projects
  • Those who prefer depth over speed

Who should stick with other tools:

  • The impatient (you’ll lose your mind waiting)
  • People who need simple, factual answers quickly
  • Budget-conscious users (it’ll likely be premium-priced)

For small business owners needing a genuine digital partner rather than just another tool, Manus represents the first AI that feels like it’s trying to understand your business, not just your prompts – similar to our approach with clients in Top 5 Reasons to Choose McNeece Web Design.

I’ll be first in line when Manus goes public. If they fix the speed issues without compromising what makes it special, it could be the first AI that feels like a collaborator rather than fancy autocomplete.
