Manus AI Review 2025: More Expensive Than ChatGPT, But Is It Worth It?

So, I just spotted Manus AI pop up in my feeds this week, and I’ll be honest — my first thought was “oh brilliant, another AI chatbot to add to the pile.” But fair play, I thought I’d give it a look since they’re pushing their “agency capabilities” pretty hard, and you know I’m always on the hunt for tools that might actually save us some time around here.

Spoiler alert: I’m not entirely convinced it’s worth the price of admission. At least not yet. But let me break down why.

The Pricing Breakdown: How Fast Will Those Credits Vanish?

Let’s start with the cold, hard numbers.

Looking at Manus AI’s pricing structure, they’ve got two tiers: Manus Starter at £39/month for 3,900 credits, and Manus Pro at a hefty £199/month for 19,900 credits.

My first thought was, “Right, but what exactly is a ‘credit’ worth here?” Because we’ve all been down this road before — companies love making their pricing structures about as transparent as a brick wall.

After digging through their docs, it seems credits are consumed based on the complexity and length of your interactions. Simple queries might cost 10-20 credits, while more complex tasks could burn through 100+ credits in one go.

Here’s the thing that made me wince: If you’re using it properly for the agency-style tasks they promote, you’ll rip through those credits faster than I demolish a packet of Hobnobs on a Monday morning.

Let’s do some maths: A simple website audit might cost 80-100 credits. Creating a content calendar could be 150-200 credits. Generating a full SEO strategy might set you back 300+ credits. With the Starter plan, that’s potentially just 13-39 substantial interactions per month. For £39.

Meanwhile, you’ve got ChatGPT Plus sitting there at about £15/month with unlimited interactions. Claude Pro costs roughly £18/month, Gemini Advanced around £20/month, and Microsoft Copilot Pro about £19/month with all those Microsoft 365 integrations thrown in. None of them are playing this credit game.

“One of the biggest challenges in evaluating AI tools is understanding the real cost per useful output. Credits systems often obscure this calculation.” — Digital Marketing Institute’s 2025 AI Tool Assessment

What Sets Manus AI Apart? The Promised “Actions”

Now, to be fair, Manus isn’t just selling another chatbot. Their big selling point is what they call “Actions” — essentially, their AI can supposedly perform tasks across different platforms without you having to do the grunt work.

The capabilities they’re claiming are pretty extensive. They talk about website analysis where it crawls your site to identify SEO issues. There’s content research functionality for finding gaps in your niche. They offer competitive analysis to keep tabs on what your rivals are doing. They even promise social media management features and data processing capabilities for handling spreadsheets and reports.

I was particularly interested in the site crawling feature. I’ve spent many caffeine-fuelled nights manually reviewing client sites, so anything that could automate that process would be worth its weight in gold.

And to be honest, it does work. I tested it on one of my client sites, and it provided a surprisingly comprehensive SEO audit, finding issues I’d overlooked. The report was genuinely useful.

But here’s where things get sticky…

What Makes Manus Different

Where Manus Falls Short (And Why I’m Not Subscribing Yet)

After spending a week with their trial, I’ve spotted some issues that are keeping my credit card firmly in my wallet.

First off, the credit consumption is wildly inconsistent. Some basic tasks burned through 50+ credits when they really shouldn’t have. It feels a bit like taxi meters running fast in touristy areas — you never quite know what you’re going to pay until after the ride.

Then there’s the Actions themselves. While the website analysis was impressive, some of the other actions were underwhelming. The social media content it created was generic at best, and the competitive analysis missed some obvious opportunities. For something billing itself as an “agency in an AI,” I expected more polish.

The concurrent task limitations are another sticking point. The Starter plan only allows 2 concurrent tasks, which is painfully limiting when you’re managing multiple clients. Pro ups this to 5, but at £199/month, that’s a big ask.

And despite all the “agency” positioning, I found myself spending almost as much time checking and correcting Manus’ work as I would have spent just doing the tasks myself. That’s not exactly the time-saving revolution they’re promising.

How Does It Compare to ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and Grok?

Having played around with pretty much every AI assistant on the market (it’s part of the job, innit?), I think it’s worth putting Manus in context. If you’re curious about how these tools stack up more broadly, check out my Grok AI Review 2025: Pros, Cons & How It Compares to ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini & Copilot.

When we talk about value for money, ChatGPT still gives you the most bang for your buck – versatile capabilities at a reasonable price point. If you’re after more nuanced writing and creative output, Claude tends to excel there. Need heavy research and data analysis? Gemini has got you covered. Grok brings a bit more personality to the table with its conversational abilities. And let’s not forget Microsoft Copilot, which shines if you’re deep in the Microsoft ecosystem and need that seamless Office integration.

Then there’s Manus AI, which does stand out for its agency-specific focus. That specialisation for web and marketing work is theoretically valuable, but does it justify that premium price tag? That’s the real question.

Final Thoughts

The Verdict: Not Worth It (Yet)

Look, I really wanted to like Manus. The concept is solid — who wouldn’t want an AI specifically tuned for web design and digital marketing tasks?

But at the current pricing, with the limitations I’ve outlined, I just can’t recommend it. Not when there are more affordable options that, while requiring a bit more prompting and direction, can accomplish most of the same tasks.

If I were to spend £199/month on a Pro plan, I’d expect:

  • Unlimited or much higher credit allowances
  • More reliable and consistent actions
  • Better integration with the tools we actually use daily
  • More concurrent tasks
  • Less need for human babysitting

I think Manus has potential, and I’ll be keeping an eye on it. If you’re running a large agency with solid profit margins, maybe the time savings are worth the price. For small businesses and freelancers though? Stick with ChatGPT or Claude for now, and supplement with specialist tools as needed.

“The value of AI isn’t in replacing human work, but in automating the mundane to free humans for strategic thinking. At current price points, some specialized AI tools create more friction than they remove.” — Future of Work Institute, 2025 Report
